Frome is a modest-sized market town in east Somerset, within striking distance of Bath and Bradford on Avon which are also covered by series of Landline Cards. Its history reaches far back into the Saxon period, when it was an important royal centre. In the 17th and 18th centuries it was a centre of woollen manufacture, and today shows evidence of this in its streets of stone-built houses which give it a unique period flavour. The human scale of its streets and buildings have made it a vibrant centre for artists and crafts-people. Its monthly artisan market, depicted on one of these cards, draws thousands.
